10 Troubleshooting Steps To Solve Shot Blasting Machine Problems

Follow this operation guide and learn basic shot blasting machine troubleshooting tips in just 10 steps. Identify problems and malfunction from symptoms of sound, heat, dusts and running failure. Eliminate caused of problem and restore shot blasting equipment to its working state.

Shot bast machine is complex equipment. This troubleshooter manual is just for basic problems and only specified operator can fix and repair machine. Other complex and specific problems, please contact technical support to Mesblate.

Step1: Low blast cleaning efficiency and bad surface finish level


Malfunction symptoms identification:

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Wrong abrasive type, steel shots, steel grits or cut wires. Wrong size of abrasives, smaller or bigger.
  2. Steel shots are not sufficient to cause lower efficiency.
  3. Bad qualified steel shots with too much dusts and crushed shots.
  4. Arc windows on abrasive control cages did not align with work pieces to be blasted.
  5. Are windows on abrasive control cages are worn to get enlarged.
  6. Abrasive impellers are worn to lower steel shots acceleration and output.
  7. Foreign objects get into steel shots to cause steel shots recycling blocked.
  8. Motor belts loose to make shot blasting wheel rotation lower. Blasting quantity and density are lower accordingly.

  1. Choose right type of abrasives, steel shots, steel grits or cut wires for mesblate shot blasting machine. Use right sized abrasives.
  2. Fill and supply new steel shots.
  3. Check dust collection and abrasive separation system to guarantee separation efficiency.
  4. Align arc windows on abrasive control cages with work pieces to be blasted.
  5. Replace worn or broken control cages with new control cages.
  6. Replace worn or broken impellers with new abrasive impeller.
  7. Check all steel shots recycling system and pick out foreign objects.
  8. Fasten motor belt and restore normal rotation.

Step 2: Abnormal noise and sound in blasting wheels

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Worn blasting blades cause unbalanced rotation producing noise.
  2. Blasting blades are not close to blast wheels disc. This causes blades offset from default position. Offset blades rotate and produce noise.
  3. Bumping sound produces from empty loading blasting equipment. This sound is caused by rub against each other between blades and blast wheel housing liners.
  4. Abnormal steel shots noise produces from working blasting equipment. This noise is caused by eccentric control cages and abrasive impellers. Impact between control cages and abrasive feed spout generate this noise.

  1. Replace whole set of blasting blades with brand new spares original from mesblate.
  2. Fix blasting blades to default position on blasting wheel disc.
  3. Cut off main power supply and stop equipment completely and erect maintenance signal board before repair and checking.
  4. Specified operator open blast wheel and adjust liners distance below 5 mm.
  5. Adjust position of control cages and abrasive impellers to be eccentric. Ensure max gap is 2 – 2.5 times of max steel shots diameter.

Step 3: Steel shots recycling is not smooth

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Bucket elevator belt loose to cause slip.
  2. There is leakage in abrasive hopper to cause lack of steel shots recycling.
  3. Abrasive reclaiming scraper is worn.
  4. Screw conveyor is stunk.
  5. Too many foreign objects block screens in separator cylinder.
  6. Buckets are worn or fall off in bucket elevator.

  1. Adjust two bolts of the mesblate's bucket elevator to make belts go up tight.
  2. Check leakage in abrasive hopper. Repair them by welding to prevent further breakage.
  3. Replace with brand new mesblate's reclaiming scraper and adjust to proper position.
  4. Pick out objects and replace new screen if necessary.
  5. Replace bearing and make sealing.

Step 4: Unqualified steel shots separation

  1. Un-sufficient air volume in separator.
  2. Steel shots volume valve is at wrong position. Can not form full curtain steel shots flow.
  3. Foreign objects block screen.

  1. Equip with higher volume extractor fan with sufficient power fan motor.
  2. Adjust steel shots volume valve to right position.
  3. Pick out foreign objects on screens.

Step 5: Dust collector dos not work or efficiency is low

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Dust collector fan rotate in wrong direction.
  2. Cartridge or bag filters are broken in dust collector.
  3. Bad ventilation pipes cause air and pressure leakage.
  4. Pulse reverser dose not work to cause too much dusts stick to filters.

  1. Reconnect cable wire to run dust collector fan rotate in right direction.
  2. Replace cartridge or bag filters in dust collector.
  3. Check the leakage points and seal them well.
  4. Repair pulse reverser and remove dusts stick to filters.

Step 6: Bearing temperature is high

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Bearing lack of lubricant oil.
  2. Too much lubricant oil is injected into bearing house. Working bearing drive oil runs and produce a lot of heat.

  1. Inject #2 calcium-based lubricant oil.
  2. Take out excessive lubricant oil. Keep it to take up 1/3 bearing house.

Step 7: Motor overheating

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Friction between blasting blades and blast wheel liner to make motors overload.
  2. Excessive abrasive supply makes motors overload.
  3. Power supply is not stable to make motors overload.
  4. Motors have problems.

  1. Keep 5mm distance between blasting blades and blast wheel liner.
  2. Adjust abrasive control valve to keep proper abrasive supply.
  3. Stop equipment and check power supply.

Step 8: Frequent start-up and stop of equipment

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Electronic components are broken in electrical control cabinet.
  2. Too much dusts piled up in electric control cabinet to cause bad electric contact.
  3. Power supply is not stable.

  1. Replace broken electronic components in electrical control cabinet.
  2. Clean dusts in electric control cabinet be specific operator and cut off power before cleaning.
  3. Stop equipment and check power supply.

Step 9: Spinner hangers do not move smoothly

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Hanger wheels have bad gap and contact, too far or too close.
  2. There's an error in the relative position of the changeover mechanism and the hanger.

  1. Adjust gap and contact between hanger wheels and rails. Keep gap between 2-3 mm.
  2. Adjust the relative position of the changeover mechanism and the hanger to make them move smoothly.

Step 10: Roller conveyor table dose not run

 

Malfunction symptoms identification:

Troubleshooting and corrective action:

  1. Rollers are stunk by steel shots.
  2. Motor or reducer is down.
  3. Too short work pieces stunk between rollers.

  1. Stop equipment and clear shots.
  2. Check and repair motor and reducer.
  3. Stop machine and reverse roller or work manually to get this work pieces out.
